The Gay-Berne model is used extensively in simulations of liquid crystalline systems. The Gay-Berne model is an anistropic form of the Lennard-Jones 12:6 potential. UijLJ/GB=4ϵ0LJ/GB[ϵLJ/GB]μ(u^j,r^ij)×[(σ0LJ/GBrij−σLJ/GB(u^j,r^ij)+σ0LJ/GB)12−(σ0LJ/GBrij−σLJ/GB(u^j,r^ij)+σ0LJ/GB)6], where, in the limit of one of the particles being spherical, gives:

σLJ/GB(u^j,r^ij)=σ0[1−χα−2(r^ij⋅u^j)2]−1/2

and

ϵLJ/GB(u^j,r^ij)=ϵ0[1−χ′α′−2(r^ij⋅u^j)2]

with

χα2=lj2−dj2lj2+di2

and

χ′α′2=1−(ϵeeϵss)1μ.
